After surgery, you will be moved to a private room, generally on the fifth floor, with beautiful views of the either the Sandia Mountains or nearby surrounding open spaces. Every member of the UNM SRMC health care team looks forward to providing you with expert care to ensure that the first few days after your surgery safe and productive.

Total Joint Education Class

Prior to knee or hip surgery, you will be asked to attend one of our Total Joint Education classes. Studies have shown that patients who attend these classes have shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times than those who do not. The goal of the class is to give you a better understanding of the journey you are undertaking and take some of the mystery out of the process.

During the class, we will discuss a wide range of topics covering what will happen before, during and after the surgery. Expectations of patient participation during your hospital stay will also be discussed. We encourage you to bring a partner or care giver to the class to share your journey. The main goal of the class is to take the mystery out of your journey, so please feel free to ask questions during the class.

Patient Resources

Total hip and knee patients will receive a Joint Journey booklet at their Total Joint Education class. You may also download this guide to learn more about the process of Joint Replacement:
